Preparing an invite-only beta · our own home machines first

Affordable GPUs for your next job.Your saved work comes with you.

Run small fine-tunes, make images and videos, or queue batch jobs on one NVIDIA GPU with 16–32 GB of memory. Choose the cheapest card in a memory size or a specific model; we pick the host. Pay by the second once the app is ready. Completed workspace saves support recovery on another available card of the same model if a host drops.

Recovery uses the latest complete save and needs another available RTX 4090. Unsaved changes and in-memory work do not survive a power cut.Sample data

Pick a task, not a server.

Choose Notebook, Image maker, Chat or Fine-tune. Pick a memory size for the cheapest available card, or choose a model by name. We pick the host; your app opens in the browser.

Pay for time that works.

Billing starts when the app is ready. Credit is prepaid, with no automatic top-up and no separate storage or transfer charges. After a host drops, paid time lost since the last complete save is refunded.

Start small, prove it works.

We are preparing an invite-only beta on our own home machines. They can lose power or internet. Recovery must pass end-to-end testing before rentals open, and outside hosts follow only after the required checks are ready.

One gaming GPU. Useful work.

Every card we rent has 16 GB of memory or more: 24 GB on an RTX 3090 or 4090, 32 GB on a 5090. Here's what that fits, from $0.16 an hour on a 24 GB card at the prices we expect at launch. Check a specific model

A saved workspace can survive a host.

Your workspace is saved while the rental runs. Recovery uses the latest complete copy on another available card of the same model. This restores files, not a running program's memory. What each kind of work keeps

  1. Your work is saved as it runsYour workspace is copied to our storage regularly. Only a copy that has fully uploaded counts as a save.
  2. Save what your job needsKeep outputs and checkpoints in /workspace. Training code must know how to resume; notebook steps may need to be run again.
  3. Recovery needs a replacement cardA move needs another free card of the same model. Recovery is not instant, and capacity is limited during beta.
  4. If a host drops, the next one picks upWhen a replacement is available, we restore the last complete save at the booked price and email you. Changes since that save can be lost.
  5. Download before you stopRecovery saves protect an active rental. Stopping deletes its files and saves, so download anything you want to keep first.

Questions, answered plainly.

What is KernelMachine?

KernelMachine offers affordable GPU rentals for work that fits on one gaming card: small fine-tunes, image and video generation, and batch jobs. Choose the cheapest card in a memory size or an exact card model; we pick the host. Completed workspace saves let a rental recover on another available card of the same model after a host drops. Hosts keep 80% of rental revenue, or 85% as top hosts, before their costs.

How much does it cost to rent a GPU?

You pay by the hour, counted to the second, only from when your rental is ready. We expect about $0.16 an hour for an RTX 3090, $0.43 for an RTX 4090 and $0.52 for an RTX 5090 at launch. Unused time goes back to your balance when you stop, and new accounts that sign in with Google or GitHub get $5 of free credit to try it, while this month's free credit lasts.

Do I need SSH, Docker or Linux to rent a GPU?

No. Pick Notebook, Image maker, Chat or Fine-tune, and the app opens in your browser. Developers can also connect from their own computer with the km command, with no keys or port numbers.

Which GPU should I rent?

Start with the memory your workload needs. We focus on one-card jobs: small LoRA or QLoRA fine-tunes of models up to about 8B, ComfyUI image and video work, and batch jobs. Cards have 16 GB or more; an RTX 3090 or 4090 has 24 GB and a 5090 has 32 GB. Actual memory needs depend on the model, data and settings.

What if a host drops or something goes wrong?

When another card of the same model is available, we restore the last complete workspace save there. Files changed since that save and anything only in memory can be lost. Paid time lost since the save is refunded, and offline time is not billed. If anything else is wrong, tap "It's broken": the rental stops and you're refunded automatically, for the current 10-minute lease, or the whole rental if it ends within 30 minutes of becoming ready (up to three automatic refunds a month).

Whose machines will I be renting?

The first beta uses our own home machines. Outside hosts will be added gradually after the required checks are ready. Home machines can lose power or internet, and their owners can inspect renter data. Keep passwords, keys and private data off rentals.

When does KernelMachine open?

We are preparing an invite-only beta on our own home machines. There is no announced launch date. Rentals open only after recovery from a dropped host has been verified end to end. Join the waitlist for an opening email.

Can I rent out my own graphics card?

Join the host waitlist if you have a 64-bit desktop or server with an NVIDIA RTX 30-series card or newer with at least 16 GB, Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04, and 250 GB free disk (500 GB recommended). Outside hosts follow the beta on our own machines. Hosts keep 80% of rental revenue, or 85% as top hosts. At the expected price, a rented RTX 4090 earns about $0.34 an hour before electricity, hardware and internet costs; demand is not guaranteed.

Rent out yours, and keep 80%.

Have a compatible PC? Join the host waitlist. We start with our own machines, then add outside hosts gradually. Hosts keep 80% of rental revenue, or 85% as top hosts, before electricity, hardware and internet costs. Earnings depend on demand. What you can earn · Check your PC
